John Wilkinson
John Wilkinson is a diagnostic radiographer who joined Siemens Healthineers after 20 years in the NHS. Today, he is Head of Transformation and Advisory Services in Great Britain and Ireland.

Siemens Healthineers: What gets you out of bed and off to work in the morning?
John: It’s a real privilege to be able to travel the country and spend time in different radiology departments. I’m constantly amazed at how many different approaches you can take to providing imaging services. Being in a position to observe best practices and develop insights is very motivating because you know that it will help your customers improve the way they work.

Siemens Healthineers: What’s the most satisfying thing about your job?
John: Definitely the time spent on-site with customers. We do a lot of rapid-improvement workshops, and we always finish with an “outbrief” on the last day. I love watching the team’s reactions to seeing what they’ve achieved over the week. Once we even had a clinical director who broke down in tears because she was so happy at what her team had accomplished.

Siemens Healthineers: Which of your skills helps you the most in your work?
John: Being a good listener! We can only help our partners if we take the time to understand the challenges they’re facing.

Siemens Healthineers: What would you advise someone hoping to go into your field of work?
John: First, don’t rule yourself out. I see the business growing with a team of professionals from different backgrounds. We need diverse skills to address the broad needs of our customers. You have something unique to offer, so if you see a position you like, then just apply!
